Throughout the different lectures and seminars on Irish literature in general and modern Irish literature in particular, the emphasis and focus will be put on the vast and various literary and artistic figures and icons of Ireland’s literature in their varied literary genres as drama, poetry and prose fiction such as Oscar Wilde, W B Yeats, James Joyce to cite but a few. For, all of these Irish authors had produced prominent and startling works of innovation which resonate whenever the English language is spoken and wherever the question of literature and modernity are debated. In doing so, the lectures are supplemented with a certain amount of the socio-historical, political and cultural implications of Ireland’s history like the home rule movement or the road to independence, the Revival and Irish Renaissance, the foundation of the Abbey Theatre and the beginning of the fascinating and magical Irish dramatic movement.
