This lecture will allow students to experience modern American literature as an alert and lively activity. They are expected to be mentally
and emotionally involved in what they read by taking notes on characters and
asking questions about whether in such similar situations they would do the
same or not. They will also be prepared to think about the theme of the story
and about many more elements of literature as they work through the material.
To achieve a better understanding, students ought to understand and show that the literary age or movement, the text under study [The Snows of Kilimanjaro] and Ernest Hemingway’s artistic image are all interrelated components. This interrelationship will help students interpret abstract meanings and formulate philosophic arguments.
